Dr. Nandan Kumar Mondal: Dr. Mondal’s research interest deals with indoor air pollution (IAP) and Public health. This study has clearly elucidated that inhalation of particulate matter (PM) while cooking with unprocessed biomass fuel (BMF) resulted in an increased incidence of DNA damage and genotoxicity among premenopausal women. BMF exposed women had higher levels of phosphorylated forms of Akt protein in PBL, airway-epithelial-cells, alveolar-macrophages, and neutrophils than control. Akt activation in BMF users was also associated with marked rise in generation of ROS and concomitant depletion of SOD indicating an important role of oxidative stress in genesis of DNA damage following IAP. He had extensively studied the different molecular aspects of genotoxic alterations, oxidative stress, and signal transduction machineries in the early event of carcinogenesis and has been reported in various peer-reviewed journals. He also undertook an active interest in the adverse health impacts in homeless street children who are addicted to inhale commercial adhesive for a powerful high and hallucination.
